Efficiency of Indian banks in fostering financial inclusion: an emerging economy perspective

Financial inclusion paves the path towards inclusive growth. The Government of India launched Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in 2014 with a similar aim. present study measures efficiency 25 banks using data envelopment analysis to ascertain how have functioned under PMJDY scheme. has been conducted for duration 7 years beginning from year scheme was introduced 2014–2015 till 2020–2021. Results empirical indicated that performance public sector better than private expanding financial programme. Additionally, measurement projection and shortfall outputs shown very few performed efficiently furthering objectives Thus, overall evidences derived suggest inefficient need expand their banking services deprived. Regular assessment would assist identifying thereby implementing necessary steps overcome obstacles achieving goals. This also improve level having low-efficiency scores. Moreover, social responsibility properly implement schemes initiated by government.
